I built this website

Hope you like it

Kean Richmond

Like most people I'm no good at writing about myself but here goes...

I'm Kean Richmond, a web designer and developer, based in North Yorkshire, UK. I love what I do and getting to not only design but build the websites I create is incredibly satisfying. It also has many benefits such as giving me an understanding of the overall processes involved in creating a website. But the best thing about getting to do it all is that when i'm stuck with a design or i'm seeing <div> tags floating around I can take a rest and change from designer to developer or vice versa.

When is comes to websites I stick to standards based (x)HTML websites. Simply put it's the best way to serve information online in both an accessible, maintainable and visible way. The great thing about building websites in this way is the challenges faced by the constraints we must work with.

I'm always on the look out to dig new things to try out. If it's not the new Javascript plaything, it's the advancements in CSS or just some tricks in Photoshop that give that improve a design that last few percent.

Enough about me, what do I actually do to pay the rent?

After graduating in Web Development at Teesside University I went to work at Bronco, and have been here for around 3 years. Bronco are a web development and search engine optimisation company based in Ripon.

In a company of about 15 people I'm the only designer, which means I get to design a lot of different sites including simple single page websites, blogs, ecommerce websites
and web applications. Added to this each website built is SEO friendly. As our
primary business this is very important, so over time I've picked up a few tips
and tricks to ensure both my design and coding plays nice with
the search engines.

..and why the website?

I'm a web designer so to not have a website is the ultimate sin.
I first set up this site back when I started University, although back
then it would be found at trans-fusion.co.uk. The sites main purpose
then was to be a space to try things out and act as a portfolio of my work. However to say it was a portfolio is a stretch of anyone's imagination.

After constant redesign I moved the site to keanrichmond.com and expanded the site
to include a blog and more extensive portfolio. The sites purpose now is to be a place online
that I can show off the work I'm particualrly proud of and write about things that I want to promote, feel rather strongly about or stuff that I think people may genuinely find interesting.

As well as all that this website is of course the one place where I can really stretch my design skills and do whatever I like.

but why's this page so all over the place?

Well about me pages can be pretty boring so I decided I'd liven up this page a little.
