There has been a lot of hype across the blogosphere about Cuil. Unfortunately the product doesn't live up to the hype.

When I first tried Cuil I was hampered by problems. Either my searches didn't return any results, which I expect is a problem at their end, or the servers were overloaded.

Now that it is working better, I still can't see it replacing Google as my search engine of choice. The three column layout is just too different and doesn't show which result is the 'authority' on the search term entered. This is usually represented by the first listing on the first page in Google search engine results.

The results are also a bit skewed. When searching for the company I work for or myself, thumbnails are included alongside the results that relate to what I am searching for. Only thing is, the thumbnails aren't at all relevant, and don't 'belong' to the listings.

At the moment the product is seriously un-cuil in my eyes!

The solution doesn’t worry me so much as the problem of having to test on multiple versions of Firefox as I have to do on IE.

If you have a snippet of the code in question that would be handy!
You may have missed something, however, I have had FF3 do some interesting things with even the most basic of css.

Personally I'm going to be a bit ignorant and ignore FF3 until it becomes as 'mainstream' as FF2 because so far it just seems to be causing new problems for us poor front end developers/ designers.

I have to say that I didn't notice the blandness of the homepage until I read this post, as I am usually signed in and therefore redirected to my homepage.

I agree with what you say in that it is desperately lacking in something to entice you in. It's the same for Facebook, however it doesn't seem to be damaging their user-base. An social networking site that I do feel has a good homepage is Virb. It's well layed out, gives you a teaser of what's available when you sign up and the call to actions are clear and direct.

That said, you're comment about Myspace being the dominant force for free online music I expect to change. With the Artist Royalty Program for independent artists, there is the incentive for those literal garage/basement bands to upload music and get paid for their efforts.

Pink? I think your monitor needs calibrating!

Apparently the launch of the redesign was hit by server issues which is why it was slow and unresponsive yesterday. It's definitely a move in the right direction and I can foresee many other social networking sites pushing new designs in the coming months.

Now that Bill Gates has stepped down from his Microsoft Tower (TM), perhaps Mozilla have barricaded themselves in it and assumed his previous role!

It's a marketing role successfully employed by both Microsoft and Adobe; release a product with bugs, then further interactions fix the prior bugs but introduce new ones.
