Changing stuff already

Careful! This post is looking a little old and could be inaccurate in many, many ways

The current design of this website has been live for about a month and I’m already changing some elements of it. In my defence I did start this design back in March 09 so some bits aren’t as new to me as they are to everyone else.

But I like this site?

Don’t worry I’m not changing anything drastic. Given the response I had for the design I’m hoping this design will hang around for a while, mainly because I can’t afford to get straight back into designing another version. But there are elements here and there I want to improve; the first is something that would probably go unnoticed if I didn’t decide to write a blog post about it.

What’s changed?

Simply I’ve tweaked the background of the site slightly. Originally the site used a cream, paper texture background with a gradient overlay just below the header bar.

It’s this gradient that’s gone. Instead I’ve used a fabric texture that fades into the paper. I think it adds a little more visual interest and simply looks better in my view.

Also I’ve made changes to the portfolio items in the site. Rather than a rectangular border I’ve changed these to a rounded border and added a slight inner shadow to the items to give them the appearance of being behind the border. Doing this has resulted in an issue with the hover state of these elements in IE6 and IE7 but I think the effect is worth the compromise.

More coming

I do have a few other things I want to change also but the plan is to change elements completely independent of the rest of the website. This means the website looks on the whole the same but some elements here and there get updated while still suiting the overall design of the website.
