Two weeks until Future of Web Design Conference

Careful! This post is looking a little old and could be inaccurate in many, many ways

In a little over two weeks I’ll be taking the 2 hour train journey to London to attend the Future of Web Design (FOWD) conference. It doesn’t seem that long since I was looking into registering for the conference upon seeing the giants of the industry such as Jon Hicks, Elliot Jay Stocks and Larissa Meek speaking. Between the speaker list and the conference schedule, the opportunity to attend seemed just too good to pass up.

With my bosses kindly offering to fund my little excursion to London I am also attending the workshop day. Choosing two workshops to attend was a difficult decision but I ended up signing up for Professional Photoshop Effects (Elliot Jay Stocks) and Web Design-isms – Trends of the future (Larissa Meek). I decided on these two workshops in an attempt to bring a wider knowledge of design to my work so I might be able to develop a larger, more unique range of designs.

It is fair to say as this is my first conference I am quite nervous about attending. One of the tricks of conferences is the ability to network, this is my problem as I will not know anyone there personally. I really have to make the effort to join in and get involved, especially with three parties, the conference day and workshops in which to get to know people.

I’d like to think that attending FOWD will not only be a learning experience but will also be the start of becoming involved in the wider community, something that I know can be very beneficial in all aspects of the job.
